Google Street View Takes You on the Tour de France
You may not be in quite good enough shape to participate in the Tour de France, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fabulous scenery bikers are taking in on the journey.
To help celebrate the Tour’s 100th Edition, Google has rolled out a few new products to help you take part in the race from your couch at home. One tool, called Your Tour, actually puts you behind the handlebars, letting you pedal through different stages of the tour by scrolling on your computer.
As you scroll, you can get a multimedia look at that particular portion of the race, complete with video from a bike, a map of the course, and even Google posts that have been made at that particular marker.
Don’t pedal too fast, or you’re likely to miss some of the added features and notes Google has added to each stage. Each stage of the race is added as the riders get there, so there’s also no way for you to really get ahead of the pack.
If you’re interested in the race but don’t want to go for a virtual ride, Google also has a YouTube channel set up for the Tour de France as well as an Android app where you can follow along with all the action while you’re on the go.
